Final Year Awards Function Returns After a Decade

The Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering proudly revived its annual Final Year Function, marking the return of a tradition that had been on hold for the past decade. This special event celebrated the outstanding research, resilience, and academic excellence of the Class of 2025.

The Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering proudly revived its annual Final Year Function, marking the return of a tradition that had been on hold for the past decade. This special event celebrated the outstanding research, resilience, and academic excellence of the Class of 2025.

Thanks to the generous support of Kirby Engineering and Construction, Investec, and SAIMechE, students had the opportunity to showcase their research projects to peers and industry representatives. Four exceptional students were recognized for their remarkable achievements:

2025 Award Winners:

  • Best Research Project: Hannes Pretorius
  • Best Design Project: Tyler Gray
  • Best Research Project Presentation: Sandy Funnell
  • Best Research Project Poster: David Rossmann
