Student Representatives

Student Scholar Representatives serve as liaisons between the UP Scholar community and the Management team, facilitating communication and addressing concerns.

Opeyemi Fajire (Chairperson)

Program: BEng. Hons. Geotechnical Engineering, Cohort 2022

MCFSPOpeyemi Fajire received his B. (Eng.) degree in Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria. He is registered for a graduate degree programme in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Pretoria. His interest is in community outreach. He has co-founded a non-governmental organization (GIFF – Give Information Fight Flood movement) in 2019, with the aim of building sustainable cities and communities, most especially in disaster-prone communities in Africa, through information dissemination, professional training and more.

Sarah Kendall (Secretary)

Program: BEng. Hons. Electrical Engineering, Cohort 2022

MCFSPBeing zealous about environmental sustainability and engineering, Sarah is pursuing a master’s degree in electrical Energy Systems Engineering at the University of Pretoria. She is looking forward to using her skills and abilities to develop affordable and accessible agricultural systems that will ensure a constant food supply for the African community, despite the ongoing global warming. She takes every opportunity to learn something and thus enjoys the thrill of immersing herself in new environments and cultures.

Gwaha Madwatte (Academics)

Program: M.SocSci. Anthropology, Cohort 2022

MCFSPGwaha is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Anthropology, with a special interest in Medical Anthropology. His research interest is in Occupational Health and Safety, Bioethics and Environmental Health. He has worked as a Research Assistant at the American University of Nigeria – where he completed his undergraduate degree in Natural and Environmental Sciences. He worked as a Project Assistant on a USAID-funded, education-strengthening project in Northeast Nigeria. He is a compassionate helper, a service-driven leader, and a basketball fan.

Peace Azeh (Events)

Program: Chemical Engineering, Cohort 2019

MCFSPHaving grown up in three different countries, Nigeria, Botswana and South Africa, I would describe myself as being very adaptable. I am excited by a challenge, and in 2022, I graduated with a BEng degree in Chemical Engineering. My personal philosophy is to give every task my all in academics and otherwise. I have benefited greatly from the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship, and I hope to have a similar positive effect on the Scholar community as a Scholar Representative.

Ruth Kasavo (Housing and Finance)

Program: MEng. Chemical Engineering, Cohort 2015

MCFSPRuth is an MEng Chemical Engineering student at the University of Pretoria. She enjoys working on new ideas, investing in herself and people, and when not so busy with life, she enjoys the gym, evening walks and trying out new places and food.

Elosy Kathambi (Media)

Program: BSc. Hons. Engineering and Technology Management, Cohort 2022

MCFSPA Civil Engineering graduate with an honour’s degree in Engineering and Technology Management from the University of Pretoria, Kathambi is currently pursuing a master’s degree in project management. She has continued acquiring real-life classroom experience, professional skills, and a strong peer network. Her position as a Media Representative will contribute to the success of the Mastercard Foundation brand. She will be sharing the information that will help the MCF community connect, feel invested in the Program, and see how their contributions are making a difference.

Abigail Chemutai (Community Engagement)

Program: BSc. Hons. Development Studies, Cohort 2022

MCFSPAbigail is a Scholar, from Bukwo area in eastern Uganda. She is committed to upholding the values of compassion, graciousness, kindness, and respect for others. She firmly believes that by taking the Scholar representative position, she will be able to make a positive impact on people around her and to contribute in fostering a vibrant community of Scholars.
