Igniting potential and preparing Scholars for the world of work

The internship readiness and professional growth workshop held on 22 October 2025 was an inspiring and empowering experience for Scholars preparing to step into the professional world.

Facilitated by Thabane Shokane, Project Coordinator for Internships and Graduate Placements, the workshop guided Scholars through the essential steps of building successful careers. The session focused on finding and applying for internships, crafting powerful curriculum vitae (CV) and cover letters, mastering professionalism, and navigating modern workplaces with confidence and purpose.

A highlight of the day was the work readiness pig personality test, a creative and fun activity that encouraged Scholars to reflect on their work styles and personal strengths. Whether ambitious, detail oriented, or collaborative, Scholars discovered that self-awareness is key to thriving in any workplace.

Through real examples and interactive discussions, the workshop reminded participants that internships are not just opportunities to gain experience, but platforms to learn, lead, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Thabane Shokane inspired Scholars to view every step of their journey as part of a bigger story of growth and purpose. “Being professional, adaptable, and curious are not just career skills they are life skills,” he shared.

The workshop reinforced the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program’s commitment to developing well rounded leaders who are not only ready for employment but ready to drive change across Africa. Scholars walked away with confidence, clarity, and a renewed sense of direction as they continue to build their paths toward impact and excellence.
