Law House's Pads for Dignity Drive (PDD)

Posted on July 20, 2018

You have classes to attend, university fees to be paid, textbooks to be bought, assignments to be printed, and all of this on an empty stomach.  You are running low on cash and it is that time of the month.  What to do?  Unfortunately you forgot to carry a backup, or generally you do not even have a sanitary pad to begin with. As female students we have been caught off guard by our period on campus countless times.' says the Vice Chairperson of Law House, Caroline Letsoalo.

Action was needed.  Therefore the 2017/18 Law House Executive Committee, the Faculty of Law's student body for all law students, in collaboration with former Deputy Dean Anton Kok and the Faculty Student Advisor, Mrs Farhana Hassan, decided during October 2017 to implement this campaign, together with a bridging food drive for law students, in the Faculty of Law.

With donations from students and staff, Law House was able to establish a bridging food and toiletries bank. Quite a few students in dire need of sanitary products have approached Mrs Hassan so it became more evident that something had to be done to alleviate the financial burden on students.

This gesture of students and staff helping fellow students was widely welcomed by the general student community.  This is shown by the positive reception on social media platforms. All donations are welcomed by Law House to sustain this worthwhile project.
