The Fifth Biennial Conference of the Association for African Studies in Italy (ASAI) the theme of which was "Plural Africa. Politics, Knowledge and Social dynamics in Time and Space", invited Professor Alois Mlambo, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies to deliver the keynote address.

Prof Mlambo's lecture, which took place on 5 September 2018, was titled "A Century of Racial Oppression: The Colonial Encounter in Southern Africa and its Legacy". He was also invited to participate in a round-table discussion on "Interdisciplinarity in African Studies" on 6 September.

Both events went extremely well and were a fine showcase of our department and the University of Pretoria. Read more about the event here.
