Lebogang Shange broke his 4th SA record of season in Cork City

Lebogang Shange, hpc sponsored race walker broke his fourth SA record of the season with another superb performance at the European Permit meeting in Cork, Ireland on Tuesday evening.

The 24-year-old High Performance Centre athlete won the 5 000m race in 18:56.84, holding off Spaniard Alberto Amezcua by less than two seconds.

In the process he improved his own personal best by nearly a minute, and shattered the previous national mark of 19:29.94 previously held by his coach Chris Britz, which was set in Pietersburg more than 18 years ago.

Shange now holds the SA records over 3 000m (11:20.39), 5 000m (18:56.84) and 20 000m (1:23:20) on the track, as well as the 20km mark (1:21:50) on the road.
