Two degrees are offered, i.e. BEng (Hons)(Engineering and Technology Management), BSc(Hons) (Engineering and Technology Management)

The admission requirements:

  • An appropriate South African BEng degree.
  • An applicant from outside South Africa must have an accredited Washington Accord BEng degree.
  • A full first year of Mathematics or an equivalent is required.
  • The departmental Postgraduate Committee reserves the right to make a thorough assessment of the applicant’s academic transcript and to decide if the applicant may be admitted.

BSc Hons (Engineering and Technology Management)

  • An appropriate bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences with an average of at least 65%, calculated on the grades of all the final-year modules failed and passed; or an appropriate BTech degree with a minimum average of 65%, calculated on the grades of all the modules, failed and passed.
  • The average of 65% is not applicable if the applicant has already completed an honours degree, or a management development programme with a minimum average of 65%.
  • A full first year of Mathematics or an equivalent is required.
  • The departmental Postgraduate Committee reserves the right to make a thorough assessment of the applicant's academic transcript and to decide if the applicant may be admitted.

 A TOEFL or IELTS test may be required of candidates who have not studied the pre-requisite degree through the medium of English.

Honours in Engineering and Technology Management (ETM)

The total fee is distributed over a maximum of two years and charged on the basis of modules taken in a year. Full-time students are expected to pay the total fee in the first year. Prescribed books are not included in the fee.

International Students

Students who do not have South-African citizenship are liable for an additional dministration fee. International students will be levied tuition fees double to that of South African citizens if:

• the student originates from a country other than the SADC countries; and

• the course of study of the student is not towards a research Masters or Doctoral degree.

Distance examination fees

Distance examinations are arranged for students who apply, but at an extra cost per examination paper. Examination fees are reviewed annually. The University reserves the right to increase the fee annually.
