Celebration of Women and Geospatial Standards

Posted on April 02, 2021

ISO/TC 211 aims at standardization in the field of digital geographic information. This is done through their work of establishing a structured set of standards for information relating to a location on earth. OGC and ISO/TC 211 recently joined forces to celebrate and empower women in the geospatial standards field.

Professor Serena Coetzee, our Head of Department was part of the event organised for Wednesday 31 March, where she spoke about the Long walk to an International Standard. Her other speakers spoke about a range of topics that ranged from Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) – A personal journey to standards, and Geonovum - Spatial data on the Web: Next generation standardization, to the Swedish Institute for Standards - ISO initiative on gender responsive standards. This talk also directly relates and contributes to SDG 5: Gender Equality. The video of the recording can be accessed here or read more on the event here.
