Lecturer elected to the GLOBE Education Working Group

Dr. Francis Wasswa Nsubuga was elected to the GLOBE Education Working group as the Africa representative for another 3 yrs. GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is an international science and education program aimed at providing students and the public the opportunity to participate in data collection and the scientific process. He has been serving on the working group since 2016. The purpose of the Working Groups (WGs) is to enhance the role of GLOBE U.S. and Country Partners and GLOBE Scientists and Educators in shaping the future of the GLOBE Program and supporting the development and implementation of GLOBE worldwide. 

This allows participants to contribute meaningfully to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment. GLOBE has developed activities which can be used in STEM subjects that enhance learning and teaching in schools for the last 25 years. Currently the program has an international network of 122 participating countries and 131 U.S partners. Tens of thousands of GLOBE-trained teachers representing schools around the world with their students have contributed over 150 million measurements to the GLOBE database. In Africa 1175 schools, 1859 teachers, 108 pre-service teachers, 30244 students are currently active on this program as of October 2019. Ever since South Africa became a member of this program it has 176 participating schools, 196 teachers, 27 Pre-Service teachers and 3520 students are involved. The majority of the pre-service teachers in RSA are from the University of Pretoria.
