Alize le Roux and colleagues from the Council for Scientific Research (CSIR) held a lecture on Friday 10 May about the recently launched Green Book (www.greenbook.co.za, https://youtu.be/2fAu2dhxCYo). Alize returned to the Department on 14 May to talk about the Book as a decision support tool.
The 10 May lecture was aimed at 3rd year GIS students and designed to showcase the use of GIS in creating the Book. The Book was launched as an adaption planning tool, but for this lecture Alize focused on the role that GIS played in the development and dissemination of the resource, i.e. the research design, story-maps, risk profile tool, and spatial analyses conducted. Students who attended were from various fields in the Department and we would like to thank Alize for taking the time to speak to the students. The lecture was insightful, engaging and showcased the importance of the Green Book as a planning tool for South African municipalities.
