The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria (UP) is proud to announce that Professor Reghard Brits in its Department of Mercantile Law was appointed on 5 July 2020 as the 2020/21 holder of the Tijdschrift voor Privaatrecht Wisselleerstoel (Journal for Private Law Exchange Chair) at Radboud University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. The TPR Wisselleerstoel is awarded to South African legal academics and entails that a recipient holds a visiting professorship at a Dutch or Belgian University.
It is expected of the Exchange Chair to “stay in residence” for some time at the host university, while presenting lectures and conducting research. The intended research project will centre on a comparison between Dutch, Belgian and South African law regarding the role of publicity in the creation of non-possessory security rights in movable assets. Lectures will also be presented on this and related topics to both under- and postgraduate students – in Afrikaans. An elated Brits says that he is honoured to be the recipient of this prestigious award and also plans a longer term joint project with colleagues in the Netherlands.
