The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria congratulates alumnus Judge Ronald Hendricks for convincing the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), chaired by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng of the South African Constitutional Court,  that he was a suitable appointee as the North West Deputy Judge President.  

Hendricks was one of four appointment recommendations made by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), which consists of 23 representatives from different structures of the government and South African legal community. In turn, the JSC recommends the appointments of judges to the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.  

Hendricks commenced studies as a BLC Law student in 1986 at the University of Pretoria, and consequently completed his LLB degree in November 1989. He has served on the bench as an acting judge since May 2003, and permanently so as from 1 November 2003. 

"Ronnie Hendricks was a member of the Centre for Human Rights, and one of the first black law students in the Faculty. The Centre was quite small then, and we had the sense that we were doing something new and became more like friends than colleagues. We are very proud of his remarkable achievement," says Professor Christof Heyns, former Director of the Centre for Human Rights.
