First-of-its-kind 3D imaging workshop set to change the way we see

Posted on August 21, 2015

The University of Pretoria (UP) is offering researchers from multiple disciplines the opportunity to collaborate internationally and to interact with state-of-the-art 3D technology. This October, UP will be hosting a first-of-its-kind 3D imaging workshop that is likely to change the face of research in South Africa. The workshop comprises four intensive and interesting days of delving into the cutting-edge technologies that are being used in leading institutions across the world.

The workshop starts with a look back in time – at the role of 3D technology in the field of palaeontology – before advancing to the nuclear age with a visit to Pelindaba. Finally, it will offer a look into the future with sessions exploring human–machine technology in bio-engineering. Along the way, it will explore the use of 3D imaging in such diverse fields as forensic anthropology, medicine and geology.

The workshop forms part of the AESOP and AESOP Plus projects and is funded by the European Commission under the auspices of the Erasmus Mundus programme. AESOP Plus is a collaborative network of 21 universities (including UP) across South Africa and Europe.
