Module content

The module addresses the specific research needs of students of a doctorate level professional degree, where the focus will be on different research paradigms/frameworks and their application to/of research and research skills within and to the education leaders’ professional requirements and contexts. Students will, during the course of the module, plan and design an original research project or set of projects and develop, propose and defend a proposal for the research project or projects to be completed as part of module NMQ 901 Research Project and Report. Successful completion of the research plan and the proposal is an assessment point in the research component.

The higher education sector has undergone an extensive alignment to the Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework (HEQSF) across all institutions in South Africa. In order to comply with the HEQSF, all institutions are legally required to participate in a national initiative led by regulatory bodies such as the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the Council on Higher Education (CHE), and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The University of Pretoria is presently engaged in an ongoing effort to align its qualifications and programmes with the HEQSF criteria.
