University of Pretoria Programme Qualification Mix (PQM) verification project

The higher education sector has undergone an extensive alignment to the Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework (HEQF) across all institutions in South Africa. In order to comply with the HEQSF, all institutions are legally required to participate in a national initiative led by regulatory bodies such as the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the Council on Higher Education (CHE), and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The University of Pretoria is presently engaged in an ongoing effort to align its qualifications and programmes with the HEQSF criteria. Current and prospective students should take note that changes to UP qualification and programme names, may occur as a result of the HEQSF initiative. Students are advised to contact their faculties if they have any questions.

    Afrikaanse skeppende skryfwerk
    Die vermoë om bellettristiese tekste (prosa en/of poësie) te kan skryf word ontwikkel deur die bestudering en toepassing van verskillende skryftegnieke en -strategieë in werkswinkelverband; vertaling van tekste; kritiese analise van gevestigde skrywers se werk mbt teks- en genrekenmerke en skryftegnieke; die skryf, herskryf en afronding van eie tekste; kritiese en kreatiewe beoordeling van eie en medestudente se tekste; bestudering van teorieë en opvattings oor kreatiwiteit en die skryfproses; kennis van die keurings- en publikasieproses en manuskripvoorbereiding.

    Afrikaanse historiese taalkunde
    Teoretiese oorsig van taalverandering in die algemeen en meer spesifiek toegepas op die ontwikkeling van Afrikaans. Spesiale aandag word ook gewy aan standaardisering en die konstruksie van identiteit.

    Afrikaanse sintaksis en morfologie
    In hierdie module kom gevorderde konsepte rakende sintaksis en morfologie in den brede, en Afrikaanse sintaksis en morfologie spesifiek, aan bod. Die leksikon-sintaksis-kontinuum word as vertrekpunt gebruik, en dit word gekontekstualiseer deur spesifiek te verwys na konstruksionele beskrywingsraamwerke binne die kognitiewe linguistiek. Daarna word spesifieke Afrikaanse morfologiese en sintaktiese konstruksies bespreek.

    In hierdie module word voorpuntnavorsing binne die kognitiewe linguistiek bespreek. Omdat daar in hierdie module aandag gegee word aan die nuutste onderwerpe en tendense binne die kognitiewe linguistiek, sal die temas wat bespreek word van jaar tot jaar verander. Studente sal in hierdie module kennis maak met hedendaagse analisemetodes en navorsingstegnieke, wat gebruik sal word om nuwe insig te verkry in Afrikaansetaalkundekonstruksies.

    Taal en politiek
    In hierdie module word die gebruik van taal in politieke omgewings ondersoek. Taal speel 'n integrale rol in die manier waarop politici hul boodskappe aan 'n teikengehoor kommunikeer. Die rol van taal word ondersoek deur 'n verskeidenheid politieke tekste en kontekste te oorweeg. Verskeie werktuie word deurlopend gebruik om politieke tekste sistematies mee te analiseer.

    The place, nature and function of theory of literature, research (hermeneutical, empirical), application; analysis, interpretation, evaluation and canonisation; literary systems (fields); capita selecta from 20th-century perspectives on literature and the study of literature; key issues in literary theory; primary and secondary sources.

    Part 1 – Theoretical basis: The concepts “science” and “research”; the relationship “theory”, “research”, “application”, forms of research (inter alia descriptive, empirical, applied); the research process (from research proposal to research report: identification and formulation of the problem, development of hypotheses, data collection and interpretation, etc); the use of the computer in research. 
    Part 2 – Application: A limited research project in which the principles of research methodology are applied. A candidate must submit the topic and format to the head of department or his/her representative for approval.
