The module comprises a study of selected capita of contemporary issues relating to the law of evidence. Aspects dealt with include the following: (a) Relevance and the fact-finding process: problematic aspects (b) Evidentiary aspects of the sentencing process with specific reference to the role of behavioural sciences (c) Expert witnesses and the “hired gun” phenomenon (d) A constitutional perspective on the privilege against self-incrimination (e) Specific aspects of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (f) Evidentiary aspects of the Sexual Offences Act
