Dr Camilla Weyer

Camilla has been involved with the ERC since commencing her Masters Studentship under Prof Alan Guthrie in 2009, and is currently working on her PhD under Prof Guthrie.

In 2013 Camilla moved to the Western Cape to assist State Vet Boland and Racing South Africa with the AHS surveillance programme and other Equine disease surveillance in the area under the Equine Research Centre. She is currently involved in the development of the new AHS Sentinel surveillance programme as well as the Equine Census of the AHS Free and Surveillance zones. Camilla assists State Vet Boland with any Equine related issues, and is authorised by State Vet Boland and DAFF to act on behalf of State Vet Boland in matters relating to AHS. She also assists with Quarantine related issues and Movement Control into the AHS Controlled area. 

Camilla has completed her SANEF Level 1 in Instruction and Horsemastership, and worked part time at various equine veterinary practices whilst completing her studies. She is married to fellow veterinarian, Dr Omar Mehtar, and they have a one year old son, Ethan. In addition to horse riding in her spare time, Camilla is a musician, and enjoys playing the piano and singing.

Mpho has been with the ERC since 2006, with his responsibilities including horse management, vaccinations, treadmill demonstrations.   Clearly an animal lover, Mpho has achieved his National Diploma in Equine Science at TUT, and has work experience with SAN Parks (as a junior honorary ranger) and de-Wildt Cheetah and Wild Dog Outreach Centre.  He has also achieved several certificates as conservator at the National Zoological Gardens – he forms an integral part of the ERC Team.

On a personal note, Mpho enjoys the outdoors, traveling around the country, watching environmental programmes, socializing with different cultures, listening to music, anything in relation to horses, and close encounters with wildlife.
