EKN 825 (Masters)

The course integrates energy, environmental, and climate change issues within the framework of social sciences, particularly focusing on the field of economics. Recognizing energy as a critical factor in economic production, the course emphasizes its profound influence on both private and public decision-making. Addressing the fundamental economic challenge of scarcity, the curriculum delves into micro- and macro-economic aspects of energy supply and demand, investment financing, and their interconnections within the broader economic system. The course encompasses the evolution of environmental considerations in energy use since the 1980s, exploring their impact on climate, economic development, and recent discussions on energy market linearization, restructuring, high-energy prices, scarcity, alternative energy forms, and energy poverty. Embracing technology advancements, the course fosters engagement through a flipped classroom approach, encouraging students to prepare by reviewing materials, news readings, and academic papers beforehand.
