Masterclasses

 

Art Song Masterclasses

The art song masterclasses for singers (18 years and older) and vocal accompanists. Participants will receive a masterclasses from an Art Song specialist, Professor Albie van Schalkwyk. Pianists who are interested in honing their skills in vocal accompaniment are encouraged to participate. Participants are expected to arrive with an art song to work through for the 30 minute masterclass with Professor van Schalwyk.

Music Enrichment Programme

The Music Enrichment Programme offers mastclass tuituion for candidated of grade 1 to 8 practical standard. The duration of an individual lesson is 30 minutes.  Instrumentalists and singers may participate. Participants may enter for more than one solo instrument. Duos and trios are also welcome.

Friday, 17 August 2018: 08:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 16:00

The following two lecturers on music pedagogy will be presented on the 18th August.

“Facts and fallacies of Piano Technique” - 9:00 (45 minutes)

Masterclasses for Advanced Pianists (Gr 8 and above)

Participants will perform and receive master classes from a panel of piano specialists on the stage of the Musaion Concert Hall. The masterclasses are only for pianists with a grade 8 or above.

Chamber Music Masterclasses

For any instrumental combination (duo, trio, quartet or quintet). Participants will perform and receive master classes from a panel of Chamber Music specialists (in front of an audience) in the Musaion Concert Hall.

Jazz Performance Masterclasses 

These 30 minute session are open to jazz musicians who are interested in improving their current repertoire or exam pieces. Participants are invited to play one to three pieces. Guest Professor Lenora Zenzalai Helm Hammonds will then offer advice on practices and techniques to enhance playing/singing. The masterclasses will take place on Thursday 16th August at 08:00-11:30.

Flute Masterclasses 

The flute masterclasses will be conducted by guest lecturer Doctor Cobus du Toit. Patricipants will recieve a 30min masterclass from Mr du Toit on Friday 17th August from 08:00 - 11:00
