Hatfield and Hammanskraal

The University of Pretoria Law Clinic has a proud tradition of rendering legal services to the community, more specifically to the less privileged and often marginalised members of the community.  If you are seeking legal assistance from the University of Pretoria Law Clinic, four criteria must be met in order for a matter to be accepted

  • The client must pass the means test
  • The matter must have sufficient merits
  • It must be a type of matter that the Law Clinic deals with   
  • The client must sign the indemnity form

 

Matters the UP Law Clinic assists with

  • Divorce
  • Domestic violence and protection from harassment
  • Maintenance
  • Eviction
  • Rental housing disputes
  • Delictual claims (e.g. Damage to vehicles in motor vehicle accidents)
  • Contractual disputes
  • Other civil litigation in Magistrates’ and High Courts (e.g. Rescission of judgment)
  • Alternative dispute resolution (e.g. Negotiation, mediation and arbitration)
  • Criminal cases (restricted to Hatfield community court – students are not involved)
  • Labour matters
  • General enquiries and opinions

 

Matters the UP Law Clinic does not assist with

  • Claims against the road accident fund (RAF)
  • Administration of estates
  • Drafting of wills
  • Sequestration and liquidation
  • Conveyancing (e.g. transfer of immovable property)
  • Representation of juristic persons (including the registration of companies)
  • Matters relating to patents, copyright and trademarks
  • Matters requiring substantial expert evidence (e.g. Medical negligence claims), except where the client provides the expert witnesses.
