Constitutional Tribunal

Constitutional Tribunal

The Constitutional Tribunal is the Judicial branch of the Student Governance structure at the University of Pretoria. The Tribunal’s main task is as Guardian of the Constitution for Student Governance. It is the Tribunal’s responsibility to ensure that all other constitutions within all student structures are aligned with the Constitution for Student Governance.

The Tribunal also has a working relationship with the Disciplinary Committee: Students where the Tribunal sits in on Disciplinary hearings and advises the chair in this regard. Another important task that the Tribunal must resolve are any disputes that any student structure might have internally or externally. These disputes will be resolved by either mediation or if the parties’ relationship has deteriorated it will be resolved through a binding adjudication. The Tribunal also has the jurisdiction to investigate any breaches of the Code of Conduct. It is therefore important for students to know they can report any incidents to the Tribunal.
