Fourth year social work student involved in therapeutic camp for children in foster care

Posted on January 03, 2016

Two of our fourth year students in the class of 2015, Mr Takudzwa Madhina and Ms Ntombi Tsotetsi, were acknowledged in the SCS (Christian Social Council) newsletter for their facilitation of a therapeutic camp for children in foster care. The foster children came from the Pretoria Central, Moot and Derdepoort areas and received foster care supervision services from the CSC North.

Seventeen children attended a four-day camp from 26 to 29 June 2015. The programme for the camp was designed to address challenges that the children experience and enhancing cohesion within the family. The camp was followed up by a foster family meeting in September and a family day in October 2015. The camp and the follow-up events formed part of the CSC family preservation programme which is aimed at strengthening family cohesion among the members of foster families. In the CSC newsletter, the hope was expressed that dedicated social work students will again form part of the project in 2016.

We wish Takudzwa and Ntombi everything of the best for their future careers as social workers.
