Welcome to the University of Pretoria’s Research in the School of Medicine

Within the School of Medicine there are many exciting ongoing research projects conducted by research groups and individual researchers. The School of Medicine consists of 28 academic departments and seven academic divisions with research forming an integral part of our activities. Quality and impact are highly valued and identified research focus areas are of international standard. Various research institutes, centres and units are situated in the School of Medicine contributing to institutional and faculty research themes. 

The School has several collaborative endeavours that include industrial partnerships, as well as national and international collaborations. Postgraduate students are being trained on a continuous basis in a research environment. They are also being exposed to other disciplines and collaborate with departments/faculties, as well as institutions at a national and international level. 

The students contribute to their field of study to ensure competency.
