A department standing together as one close-knit family. What a sight to behold! The newly named Department of Plant and Soil Sciences (DePPS) participated for the first time this year in the annual University of Pretoria Career Fair held on 19 -20 May 2016 and Open Day held on 21 May 2016 with tremendous success, judging by the incredible numbers of prospective learners from all over the country visiting the campus.

Personnel and students of the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences (DePPS) put in a great amount of team effort to market their Department with great enthusiasm during these events.

The exhibits and demonstrations that were skilfully presented showed how plant and soil scientists apply science and technology to the advantage of mankind. The visitors also enjoyed the day. One parent's feedback was: "Thank you Plant and Soil Sciences and the University of Pretoria for organising such a great event. We got much more than what we expected. Everything was run very professionally."

"I think we can say without hesitation that this year's Open Day was a success”. The number of visitors was considerably higher than last year. We spoke to visitors from all over the country, and most of them came down especially for the Open Day.
