UP against xenophobia

Posted on April 20, 2015

The University of Pretoria condemns all forms of xenophobia and associated violence across the country. These acts are a direct violation of the human rights enshrined in South Africa’s constitution.

Over the past days, UP has through its management, from its International Student Office, the Centre for Human Rights and other support structures like the Department of University Relations, communicated this message to its vast cohort of international students and other stakeholders.

The University is fundamentally opposed to and denounces any form of discrimination and will not tolerate any form of xenophobia on any of its seven campuses. The University’s Department of Security Services has been placed on alert since the outbreak of the xenophobic incidents in various parts of the country and any student who feels threatened while on a UP campus should dial the 24-hour Emergency Operational Management Centre on 012 420 2310/2760 or the 24-hour Operational Manager on 083 6540 476.
