The Department of Mercantile Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria (UP) is proud to announce that it has experienced a ‘bull market’ of a year.

For the first time in the history of the Faculty five members from one department received National Research Foundation (NRF) ratings, as well as three promotions effective 1 January 2019:  They are Prof Monray Botha, Head of the Department of Mercantile Law, from associate professor to full professor;  Dr Reghard Brits from senior lecturer to associate professor; and Dr Tronel Joubert from lecturer to senior lecturer.  Prof Hermie Coetzee received a C1 NRF-rating, Professors Monray Marsellus Botha, Jacolien Barnard and Stefan Renke C2 NRF-ratings and Dr Reghard Brits also a C2 NRF-rating.

The Faculty of Law congratulates the Department on their 2018 achievements.

The Department also announced new appointments:  Dr Jani van Wyk effective 1 October 2018 and Ms Nthope Mapefane from 1 January 2019.  Congratulations on your appointments, Jani and Nthope!
