Department of Informatics hosts internationally renowned expert in Enterprise Architecture

The Zachman Framework is accepted internationally as an integrative framework for Enterprise Architecture. Mr Zachman has focused on Enterprise Architecture since 1970 and has written extensively on the subject. He has facilitated innumerable executive team planning sessions and travels widely, teaching and consulting. He is a popular conference speaker, known for his motivating messages on Enterprise Architecture issues. He has spoken to many thousands of enterprise managers and information professionals on every continent.

Mr Zachman is also known for his early contributions to IBM’s Information Strategy methodology (Business Systems Planning) and to their Executive team planning techniques (Intensive Planning). He retired from IBM in 1990, having served them for 26 years.

He is Chief Executive Officer of his own education and consulting business, Zachman International and serves on the Executive Council for Information Management and Technology (ECIMT) of the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO). He has received many accolades in response to his achievements in the field. In 2002 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Advisory Board of the Data Administration Management Association International (DAMA-I). In 2004 he received the Oakland University, Applied Technology in Business (ATIB), Award for IS Excellence and Innovation. In 2009 the Center for Advancement of the Enterprise Architecture Profession presented him with the Enterprise Architecture Professional Lifetime Achievement Award.

John Zachman followed his visit to University of Pretoria with a trip to Cape Town to present a workshop at the inaugural IEEE SMC Enterprise Systems (ES2013).
