Posted on May 09, 2017

The Department of Historical and Heritage Studies has made news through its engagement in its 2016 postgraduate seminars with debates surrounding African history and the discipline’s status, given the recent calls for the decolonisation of education.

Dr Glen Ncube, lecturer in the department, compiled some of the debates of his 2016 African History Honours class to provide an opinion piece for the online news site The Conversation.

This class included honours students Jane Mampane, Kudzai Mhere, Nobungcwele Mbem, Genis Stephanus Gabriel Du Toit, Laura Sophie Schnieders, Nicole Sithole and Tanyaradzwa Muranda.

Dr Ncube was also interviewed by SAFm on the role of African History as a discipline and its place in global history. Listen to the interview here.
