Honours in Engineering and Technology Management (ETM)

Purpose of the ETM

There can be little doubt that technology is increasingly becoming an important base for competition between companies and also a key factor in international competitiveness. The ability to manage technology and technological innovation in a structured way is the key to a winning advantage.

The honours programme in Engineering and Technology Management is aimed at engineers and scientists who have recently completed a bachelor’s degree and who have insufficient work experience or require an entry qualification to enrol for a master’s degree in the technical management sciences at the University of Pretoria. The honours programme provides the first step towards technical management and exposes the young graduate to the management of technology and the management of technological innovation through predefined courses as well as a research project. By successfully completing the honours programme, young engineers and scientist should have improved their ability to manage technology and have the knowledge on how to develop and deploy technology innovations. Skills are therefore acquired that are not normally addressed at undergraduate level, but are nonetheless increasingly being sought after in industry. The honours programme consists of a set of prescribed modules. Each course is offered by way of two and a half consecutive days of full-time attendance. All the modules are telematically supported.
