TuksLaw recognises 2014 academic achievers

Posted on April 15, 2015

The proud Dean, Prof André Boraine, welcomed those present before introducing the keynote speaker, Judge Dennis Davis, who is one of South Africa's most respected legal minds.

Judge Davis reminded the audience of the state of the nation in the 1970s and 1980s and observed that we are now in a better space. The Constitution provides a roadmap for our future and we should constantly reflect on how the law can contribute to the reconstruction of our society. He called on the law students to make their degrees count, to make the Constitution work, and to embrace the vision of transformative constitutionalism.

Following Judge Davis' speech, bursars and donors from various prestigious institutions and law firms presented their respective awards, bursaries, prizes and trophies, assisted by Dr Femida Cassim from the Department of Mercantile Law and Mr Tshepo Madlingozi from the Department of Jurisprudence. The 2014 academic year achievers, including final-year LLB students who had obtained Dean's Merit List status, proudly received their awards and were enthusiastically applauded.

Deputy Dean Anton Kok concluded the formalities, which were followed by a cocktail function.

A function for first-, second- and third-year LLB students with Dean's Merit List status for the 2014 academic year was hosted by the Faculty earlier this year.
