The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria cordially invites you to a conference on advancing the right to access to justice and legal capacity for persons with disabilities in Africa which will be presented from 7 to 8 November 2017.

 

About the Conference

This year’s conference will focus on the following themes:

a) the implications of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) for the African region with particular reference to article 13, the right to access to justice and article 12, the right to equal recognition before the law;

b) the development of mechanisms/strategies for the effective domestication and implementation of articles 12 and 13 of the CRPD; and

c) the interplay between article 13 and article 12 of the CRPD.

Disability Rights Conference Poster Presentation Competition

The Centre for Human Rights invites conference participants to take part in the Disability Rights Conference Poster Presentation Competition. Conference participants are invited to present an origional poster which depicts an innovative innitiative they are involved in, aimed at implementing the right to legal capacity (article 12) and/or the right to access to justice (article 13) of the CRPD in their country. The posters will be displayed at the conference. The winning poster will receive an electronic tablet. Participants must submit a soft copy of the poster by 20 October 2017 and bring a printed version to the conference.

 

GUIDELINES FOR DISABILITY RIGHTS CONFERENCE POSTER COMPETITION

1. Originality:

All posters must be the original work, prepared by the participant.

2.   What the Poster should cover:

Each participant is required to create a poster which depicts an innovative initiative they are involved in aimed at implementing the right to legal capacity article 12 and/or the right to access to justice article 13 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in their country. The work may be completed or in progress. If you are not sure if your work should be submitted – please contact us and we will be pleased to discuss further.

3. Creativity and Personality:

3.1. Posters must be creative and must clearly capture the essence of the project it depicts.
3.2. A poster is a different medium from a paper, which is expected to be conventional and impersonal. Think of your poster as an extension of your personality. Use it to draw the passerby to take a closer look or to want to talk to you.
3.2  Please include a photo of yourself and contact details on the poster to assist other participants in finding you during the conference.

4. Target Audience

4.1. The poster must cater to the audience attending the conference and provide the appropriate scope and depth in terms of content. The conference will include non-specialists, thus ensure that the language used is easy to understand. The poster should be succinct and show the project design, implementation and results.
4.2 Participants should try and guide the reader with arrows, numbering, or whatever else makes sense in getting them to move from one logical step to another. Try to do this guiding in an unusual and eye-catching way.

5. Poster size

5.1 Printed posters should be at least A1 in size (594x841mm). Please ensure that your poster meet this requirement.

6.  Submission

Soft copies of the poster must be submitted, preferably before, but no later than 20 October 2017 to disabilityrightsconfer[email protected]. Participants are expected to print their own posters and submit poster during registration of the conference. .
