Professor Antoinette Lombard, Department of Social Work & Criminology

Antoinette Lombard is professor in social work and Head of the Department of Social Work and Criminology at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. In South Africa, she served for a period of 15 years in national professional bodies, including the Interim Council for Social Work; the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) and Professional Board for Social Work. On the international front, she represents the Association of South African Social Work Education Institutions (ASASWEI) on the Board of the International Association for Schools of Social Work (IASSW). She is the Programme Director of the Fordham University’s Ubuntu Exchange Programme with the University of Pretoria. She serves on the editorial board of international and national journals. In 2013, Lombard received the James Billups International Consortium for Social Development Leadership Award in Social Development. Prof Lombard was the second runner up for the 2015 Distinguished Women in Science Award (WISA) in the category Humanities and Social Sciences.  Antoinette’s research interests include developmental social work and welfare, and social and economic development. She has more than 50 publications, including journal articles, six book chapters, and a book on community development. She is a C2 NRF-rated researcher. Ten doctoral and 46 master’s students have completed their studies under her supervision.
