Marketing honours students delight Eskom Finance Company

Posted on October 01, 2018

The University of Pretoria’s 2018 BCom Marketing Management honours students were challenged by their latest client, Eskom Finance Company (EFC), to develop an innovative marketing campaign using cost-effective marketing tools and methods to sell a mortgage loan to Eskom millennial employees. EFC was established with the core focus of empowering Eskom employees with access to finance a home loan.

The students received the brief from Mr Etienne Bester, Finance Manager at EFC, two weeks prior to their presentations. On the night of 12 September 2018 excitement filled the air as the 10 teams, consisting of six students each, presented their innovative campaigns.

After an evening of excellent presentations by all teams, Mr Bester said that he was overwhelmed by the effort put into the project and complimented the class on their confident presentation skills. He added that he could use elements from each and every team to design an “awesome marketing strategy”. The campaigns produced by the students were said to be better than any campaigns suggested previously. Mr Bester also mentioned that he viewed the night as a major success not only for the students, but for EFC as well.

At the end of the evening the ‘Sums of Anarchy’ team came out on top with their EFC home page idea. In second place was ‘Amandla Marketing’, and in third place ‘the Loan Sharks’. The evening concluded with Craig Bydawell thanking Mr Bester for giving the students an opportunity to learn about EFC and the work that they do. He presented Mr Bester with a token of appreciation to show the gratitude of the University of Pretoria and the students alike for the amazing challenge and wonderful learning opportunity.
