Posted on September 12, 2018

His Excellency Dr Jong-Dae Park, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, recently delivered a guest lecture on ‘Korea`s Economic Transformation: Evolution, Essence and Implications’ to the third-year International Management students in the Department of Business Management.

In his lecture, Dr Park outlined how South Korea was able to transform its economy from one of the poorest in the world after World War II to the 11th largest economy by focusing on four cornerstones: land reform, the empowerment of people, education reform and government reform. Today, South Korea is also ranked first in research and development intensity, value-added manufacturing, tertiary efficiency and patent activity.

Parallels were also drawn between the South African economy and that of South Korea, and the lessons South Africa can learn from the economic transformation of the South Korean economy.
