Community Engagement

Eersterust Community Engagement Project

Community engagement is the process of working collaboratively with community groups to address topics, interests and/or challenges that impact the holistic well-being of the community. The Eersterust Community Engagement Project (ECEP) hosted by the Early Childhood Department of the University of Pretoria is focused on engaging collaboratively with in-service teachers to strengthen knowledge, skills and values about ECE practices. By becoming cognizant of the unique social, cultural, educational and historically lived-experiences of four respective Eersterust schools, we are all offered the opportunity to join hands in actualising the in-service teachers’ capacities, strengths and assets to promote education in the early years.

During the latest collaboration, a series on teaching reading was hosted. The series was titled "Teaching Reading the UP-way" and was presented by Dr West, Dr Swanepoel and Ms Lekgetho.
