Prof. Roumen Anguelov, the Head of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Pretoria, cordially invites you to a public lecture titled: ‘Mathematics and Agronomy. Applications in crop protection and yields’ improvement. Ongoing works and challenges’ which will be presented by established international Visiting Researcher, Dr. Yves Dumont.

Abstract
Food safety has become an important challenge in the world, particularly in Austral Africa. While the food demand is increasing, crop yields are reducing or crops are impacted by diseases and pest. That is why crop protection and yields’ improvement have become important issues, in which Mathematics can bring new insights.

The aim of this talk is to present recent and ongoing works on how Modelling and Mathematics can be useful tools to tackle some issues related to yields' improvement and crop protection. I will emphasize the importance of joined collaborations, through multidisciplinary projects, with field experts to build (and study) relevant models.
