Studio co-ordinator and lecturer

 

TEACHING

Catherine Karusseit joined the Department of Architecture at the University of Pretoria in 2001 as a part-time studio assistant in the 2nd and 3rd year design studios. She was appointed permanent staff in 2002. She currently co-ordinates ONT 203 second year interior design, and lectures OML 210 and AAL 223. She has also taught OML 110, OMG 120, AAL 210 and MST 223, as well as worked in ONT 100, ONT 303 and the Honours studios. Since 2004 Catherine has successfully led 14 MInt(Prof) theses, five MArch(Prof) theses and one ML(Prof) thesis. She has acted as external examiner for BTech at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, the University of Johannesburg and Inscape Design College (Pretoria campus), as well as examined MTech (Research) for the University of Johannesburg.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Catherine Karusseit is the co-ordinator in the Department for the University of Pretoria Open Day.

 

RESEARCH

Catherine Karusseit completed her master’s by research dissertation on Victorian Respectability: the Gendering of Domestic Space in 2008. Her research foci include: Heritage and Cultural Landscapes: Victorian architecture and art history, gender and architecture; Human Settlements and Urban Landscapes: open building systems and inclusive design; and Environment Potential: inclusive design.
