The Lindsey Milne bursary scheme is named after Dr DL Milne in honour of his vast and selfless contributions to the Subtropical fruit industry. Dr Milne served the subtropical fruit industry in many ways, as employee of the Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Fruit, as General Manager of Westfalia and after his retirement, as Chairman of the Subtrop group. The SA Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop), comprising of the South African Avocado Growers’ Association (SAAGA), The South African Mango Growers’ Association (SAMGA) and the South African Litchi Growers’ Association (SALGA), is the donor of funds to the Lindsey Milne Bursary Scheme.

The South African Avocado Growers’ Association (SAAGA) makes bursaries available to individuals from historically disadvantaged groups for studies to towards a BSc (Agric) or equivalent degrees majoring in Horticultural Science or Agricultural Economics / Agribusiness.
