Dr. Susan Thuketana biography

Dr. Nkhensani Susan Thuketana is a lecturer and the coordinator of the Learning Support modules at the University of Pretoria. The modules focus specifically on learners' school readiness and facilitate students' knowledge and understanding of Inclusive Education and the insights into the causes of learning barriers. As a lecturer, she conducts community engagement projects with students doing the Learning Support modules. The projects give students Work Integrated Learning experience and share research-based strategies with in-service teachers at schools.

Before her current employment, Dr. Thuketana worked in special education, coordinated the School-Based Support Team, and served in the District Based Support Team, whose mandate was to outsource professional support for children with Special Needs. She pursued her Honour’s and Master’s degrees in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) at the University of Pretoria. She completed her PhD degree with the Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE) specialising in Inclusive Education. Her research interests pertain to Inclusive Education, child development, learning difficulties and learner support.
