Dr Joyce West is a Fulbright Scholar and lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the University of Pretoria. Joyce completed her PhD in Humanities Education. Her field of research includes applied linguistics (language education and reading assessment) as well as teacher education and training. She has published articles in several peer-reviewed journals, written various chapters for nationally prescribed textbooks and presented several papers at national as well as international conferences. She also serves on various national as well as international journal’s editorial teams.

She has a passion for language education and believes in promoting equitable, inclusive and quality education. With her research, she hopes to improve language education and teacher training in South Africa.
