FEATURING – 'Gedenkschriften van Paul Kruger' as dictated to HC Bredell and Piet Grobler

Posted on October 11, 2021

The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

“Gedenkschriften van Paul Kruger” as dictated to H.C Bredell and Piet Grobler.

This first edition of the Memoirs of Paul Kruger, published in 1902, comes with a very interesting inscription from P.R. Boele van Hensbroek. Written in Dutch, the note tells how the book was given by the publisher, Jacobus Funke, to his brother-in-law P.A.M Boele van Hensbroek (the inscriber’s grandfather) in 1902. The book was passed on to the inscriber’s South African family, in the hope that it would give pleasure and, if necessary, that the family would draw strength and hope from it. This book was donated to our collections by the Sluiter family in 1992.
