Fifty years of the history of the Republic in South Africa (1795-1845). Vol. II by Johan Carel Voigt.

Johan Carel Voight’s two-volume history of the European settlers, and their goal of establishing of a republic in the interior of South Africa, was published in 1899. From the Introduction of volume 1: “That Republic’s first advent in the country south of the Orange River, its suppression by England, its reappearance in the regions further north, its first battles in the long struggle for liberty and national existence: these are the themes dealt with in the succeeding pages.”

Volume two deals with the period from the early to the middle 19th century.

This book is available at Special Collections, housed on level 5 of the Merensky 2 Library, and is part of our Africana (ZA) Collection.
