The Outspan: Tales of South Africa by Sir Percy Fitzpatrick.

James Percy Fitzpatrick (1862-1931) was a South African author, politician, mining financier and pioneer of the fruit industry. Best known as the author of Jock of the Bushveld, Fitzpatrick wrote about life in South Africa in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Outspan, published in 1897, consists of six short stories describing life as a transport rider in the Transvaal veld in the days of the gold rush in South Africa at the end of the 19th century.
