#TuksCycling: Tuks cyclist wins coveted yellow jersey at USSA Championships

Posted on July 05, 2019

It took a while, but at long last, a Tuks cyclist managed to win the coveted yellow jersey during the USSA Cycling Championships.

Alex Worsdale is the rider to do so. On Wednesday after three days of intense racing in and around Stellenbosch, he managed to beat the Maties rider, Jean-Pierre Lloyd, by 3 minutes and 33.70s. Andries Nigrini (Tuks) finished third overall in the individual standings.

The last time a Tuks rider ended up wearing yellow during USSA's was in 2014. Kevin Patten was victorious for two consecutive years. Also winning in 2013.

The Tuks men's team so nearly managed to pull off a clean sweep. They were leading the team competition. Unfortunately in a mere few seconds during the criterium-race things went slightly awry. Worsdale went down in a crash.

Still, Marinus van Sandwyk (Tuks cycling manager) can be forgiven for using the phrase: "I love it when a plan comes together."
