What is the Convocation AGM?
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the University of Pretoria’s principal annual gathering for the Convocation — a legally constituted body comprising more than 300 000 alumni, members of the University Executive, faculty deans, current academic staff, professors emeriti, and retired academic employees.
The AGM provides a formal platform for Convocation members to:
- receive updates on the University’s activities, achievements, and strategic direction;
- review annual reports and financial statements;
- participate in governance matters, including motions and elections (where applicable); and
- engage directly with University leadership through questions and discussion.
It is the central forum through which the Convocation fulfils its governance and oversight role, ensuring transparency, accountability, and active alumni engagement.
Why the AGM is important
The AGM is of critical importance to Convocation members and the University at large. By attending or submitting questions, members:
- Stay informed: Gain insight into the University’s achievements, challenges, and strategic priorities.
- Engage with leadership: Interact directly with the President of the Convocation, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, and other senior officials.
- Contribute meaningfully: Provide input on matters of governance and institutional development.
- Support UP’s legacy: Help ensure that the University continues to uphold its values of excellence, integrity, and service to society.
Participation in the AGM strengthens the connection between alumni and the University, and allows members to play an active role in shaping UP’s ongoing growth and reputation.
