As an option for a community project, students enrolled for the Community-Based Project module of the Faculty Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology, may develop an enrichment project for animals at the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa (Pretoria Zoo). These projects included in the past a ball for the tiger, houses for bats and owls, a hoist feeder for the giraffe and okapi and a water feature for the crocodiles. Some of these students shared their experiences with the visitors at the National Zoological Gardens during the National Science Week celebrations.
