National Science Week brings TuksChess and Wits Chess together

Posted on August 12, 2015

As part of the National Science week initiative, Sci – Enza and TuksChess invited Wits Chess to a thrilling evening of chess on the 6th August 2015.  Both teams took this opportunity for sharpening their skills and in preparing for the 2015 USSA Chess Championship taking place later this year at University of North West.

Each team consisted of 10 players (seven men and three women). Two games were played between the players and the time control was 45 min a player. TuksChess took advantage of Wits Chess having travelled all the way in the first game as they won 7-3.  Two games (on Board 2 and 5 were narrowly won on time control with each player having 3 seconds left).  To redeem themselves, Wits Chess held their own in the second round beating TuksChess by 5 ½ - 4 ½.

We believe both teams did learn something from this encounter.  Best part of the evening was when Wits Chess team was taken around the Sci –Enza and the most enjoyable exhibit they explored was the mirror maze.  TuksChess would like to thank Wits for honouring their invite. We can’t wait to have another rematch soon

Practice is on Tuesday and Friday from 15:00-17:00
