Prof Patricia Forbes was announced as the recipient of the prestigious Chromatographer of the Year award for 2019 in the categories General contributions to promote Chromatography in South Africa and Publications of applications of new chromatographic techniques at the Annual General Meeting held on 25 November 2019.

Prof Forbes is an analytical chemist of international stature that has served on the ChromSA (The Chromatography Division of the South African Chemical Institute) management committee since 2003, in the capacity of chair for the period 2009 – 2016 and renewed as ChromSA chair from 2019 onwards. Apart from her excellent service to chromatography in a managerial, advising and regulatory capacity, Patricia leads an extremely dynamic research group dealing with various environmental monitoring challenges. Eight out of twenty of her publications in international journals since 2017 deal extensively with the topic of chromatography.
