UP Researcher to attend Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting

Posted on March 06, 2013

This meeting will be attended by 35 Nobel prize winners including such distinguished scientists as Sir H.W. Kroto and Prof. R.F. Curl Jr. who are co-discoverers of the spherical carbon cage compounds called fullerenes, as well as Prof. G. Ertl who won the Nobel prize in chemistry for his studies of chemical processes on solid surfaces including the well known Haber–Bosch process. It is a unique opportunity for young scientists from all over the world to exchange knowledge and ideas, establish new contacts and learn from some of great minds of our time in the fields of chemistry, physics and medicine. More information can be found at the Lindau website

Dr. Badenhorst is currently doing research at the SARChI Chair in Carbon Materials and Technology at the University of Pretoria. His work is mainly focused on the solid state reaction of graphite with oxygen but he has recently expanded his research to include the use of novel graphite materials for solar energy collection and storage.
