The University of Pretoria welcomes you to SASBMB 2020, the 27th SASBMB biannual conference, from 5 to 8 July 2020 at the Groenkloof campus.
This will be the 27th SASBMB conference in the venerable history of the SASBMB.
SASBMB conferences traditionally bring together academics, researchers, students, industry representatives and members of the public working or interested in the broad field of molecular life sciences such as biotechnology, bioinformatics, immunology, genetics, genomics, physiology, medical science, food science, plant and animal sciences, biophysics, chemistry, etc.
Hosted by the University of Pretoria, SASBMB 2020 is being organized by members of the Department of Biochemistry, Genetics and Microbiology. While the conference will focus mostly on South Africa and countries in SADEC, attendance from other African countries and further afield will be strongly encouraged.
Under the motto of Biochemistry Matters the conference is being planned around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to emphasize the responsibility that academics, students, organisations, government and industry in this field have to the world population. In line with the SDGs, we are limiting the footprint of the meeting by e.g. using central water dispensers in place of plastic bottles, reducing the amount of printed material in favour of electronic distribution via the conference website or flash drives, using recyclable materials in name tags, posters, etc. Similarly we will avoid single-use materials during meals and functions – unless recyclable.
